The airport of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky will make more than 500 free full-board rations for lonely senior citizens older than 65 who are quarantined in their homes because of COVID-19 coronavirus. The given group is in need of help more than others because these people have no loved ones to support them. The social security service will locate the aid addressees and deliver food kits to them.
This initiative is informed by aspiration to contribute to the common effort of fighting the epidemic and overcoming its consequences, despite the difficult economic situation of the aviation industry at large and losses incurred by airports in particular.
The catering service of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky’s airport already makes 200 daily rations for lonely retirees of Kamchatka that include breakfast, lunch and dinner. Starting on April 20 the number of daily rations will increase to 500. The support of senior citizens with three daily meals will last at least till April 30.
Kamchatka’s main airport has joined the initiative of Airports of Regions holding (part of Renova Group) aimed at backing senior citizens, with Koltsovo (Yekaterinburg), Kurumoch (Samara), Strigino (Nizhny Novgorod) and Platov (Rostov-on-Don) airports also participating. Counting the airport of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, the total number of free food kits made by Airports of Regions holding comes to 3,500 rations a day.
We should remind that given the threat of the new COVID-19 coronavirus infection spread in Russia, most regions including Kamchatka were obliged to introduce a lockdown regime for citizens older than 65 from the end of March till April 30. The lockdown regime for this group shall be introduced at their domicile or in other premises, including private homes, homesteads and garden cottages. The social security service is in charge of backing quarantined people, should they encounter any problems with the acquisition of medicines and foods.
